Rite of Christian Initiation of Children (RCIC)
Parents, who are enrolled in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA), often want a similar program for their youngsters who will enter the Catholic Church with them. Normally, RCIC is administered in two different ways for school-age children. If the youngster has not already received Christian Baptism, we will prepare them for baptism, instructing him/her in the understanding of Faith in Christ, and of Baptism as the sacrament that incorporates him/her into the Body of Christ, the Church. Thereafter:
Rosary School Students will take the usual age/grade based religion courses with their class, each year. Youngsters in 2nd through 4th grades will be prepared in class to receive first Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Communion. Those in grades 5 thru 8 will attend the Special Teen Class
sponsored by our Parish Religious Education Program on Sunday mornings at 10:30 (after the 9:30am Mass).
Students who do not attend Catholic Schools will take the usual age/grade based religion courses, sponsored by our Parish Religious Education Program, on Sunday mornings at 10:30 (after the 9:30am Mass). Youngsters will be prepared to receive first Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Communion.
Special Note: Occasionally a young person, below legal age, may express an interest in becoming Catholic.
If the parents are not in the RCIA process, and do not plan to be Catholic themselves, then the youngster should provide written permission from the parents (or legal guardian) authorizing us to instruct their child(ren) in the Catholic Faith and receive them into the Church.
